Curriculum

Melrose High will be reviewing our current curriculum content in line with the implementation of the new National curriculum guidelines in English, Maths, Science and History. Our current curriculum which was recently aligned with the ACT framework is a very closely aligned with the National agenda. While some minor changes will occur throughout the year, Melrose's curriculum is well placed to fulfil the National requirements.

The Melrose High School Curriculum is based on the concept of offering a broad education within a structure that allows choice and which addresses each individual's interests, needs and strengths.

The breadth is achieved in Years 7 and 8 with students studying in all curriculum areas.

In Years 9 and 10, students choose a curriculum package, which includes compulsory studies in English, Mathematics, Science, SOSE and PE and further selections from the other key learning areas to complete a total of 28 semester units over the two-year period.

The specific needs of individuals are met with the large number of options available within each area.

In Years 7 and 8, students are given the opportunity to study a wide range of units in each area.  This experience has the function of permitting a smooth transition to high school as well as encouraging wise and informed decision making in subsequent years where students choose from a range of options within each Learning Area.

Details are given in the course outlines on the following pages.  The curriculum handbook distributed to students in Years 8 and 9 during term 3 provides the most recent information about courses offered in the following year.
