Melrose High School has strong focus on languages. Three languages are offered in Years 7-10: Chinese (Mandarin), Indonesian and Japanese. The study of a foreign language is compulsory in years 7 and 8 and students are strongly encouraged to continue as an elective in Years 9 and 10.
Learning a language provides students with rich learning opportunities to develop academically, culturally and intellectually. Students of Japanese and Chinese have the opportunities to travel overseas and experience authentic learning through our biennial exchange programs with schools in Makubetsu, Japan and Min De Junior High School in Taiwan. There are also opportunities to host students from these schools in their annual visits to Melrose High school.
Melrose High School has a strong tradition of academic excellence and all students are strongly encouraged to participate in the annual ACER Language Certificate Tests.
