ACE aims to inspire and challenge students. ACE classes are offered in the core subjects – English, Science, Mathematics and HaSS. ACE programs are also promoted in the Arts and Technology for Years 9 & 10.

ACE English

The Melrose Language Faculty runs an ACE (Academic Curriculum Extension) English course, designed for students at Melrose High School with a strong interest and ability in English. Students in the ACE class study the same units but with more challenging texts and higher-order concepts than mainstream English classes. Students participating will be expected to be able to write using sophisticated expression and in a variety of styles. Students will also be expected to actively participate in formal and informal discussion both in the classroom and online. Students can apply each semester to join the ACE class, selection criteria include past grades, teacher recommendation based on classroom engagement and quality of work, and behaviour.

ACE HaSS

Ace HaSS provides opportunities for academic excellence beyond mainstream classes. The ACE HaSS program offers students in years 8-10 the chance to work in classes which are structured for highly motivated and talented students with above average ability, who are able and willing to work in an academically challenged environment. ACE teachers of HaSS classes challenge students with work in greater depth, and with enrichment opportunities such as students visiting primary schools to speak publicly on current and relevant topics to frame arguments for the public domain or extension activities such as entering external completions - Mini Model UN, Tax Super and You, as well as outreaching to high government officials for responses to current world issues.

ACE Arts

ACE classes are offered in Dance, Music, Drama and Visual Art. Students develop their technical and conceptual skills and are provided with performance/exhibition opportunities.
